Punjab Kings may receive a major boost ahead of their must-win fixture against Mumbai Indians. Reportedly, PBKS’s star spinner Yuzvendra Chahal is likely to play the Qualifier 2 at Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad on Sunday.
Chahal last played for PBKS against the Rajasthan Royals on May 18. Since then, he has been sidelined due to a wrist injury. He has missed three matches with Harpreet Brar playing as his replacement.
Punjab Kings had a training session on Saturday before the high-stakes Qualifier 2 on Sunday. Chahal was spotted having a fielding session. After that, he had a long discussion with head coach Ricky Ponting about catching techniques. Chahal being back in the nets is a good sign for Punjab Kings.
Punjab’s main players trained lightly with little drizzle affecting their practice session. While the main focus was on fielding, some players like Josh Inglis, Musheer Khan, and Suryansh Shedge had a hit at the nets against some of the net bowlers.
Chahal has been struggling with inconsistency this IPL season. Still, he has picked up 14 wickets in 12 innings at an economy rate of 9.57. However, being an experienced player with brilliant bowling, PBKS would want his services in the do-or-die game against MI.
Punjab Kings ended the league stage at the top of the points table. Although they lost to the Royal Challengers Bengaluru in Qualifier 1, they still have a shot at the final of the IPL 2025. PBKS will face MI in the match that will decide which team goes to the final.
In the last game between PBKS and MI, Punjab emerged victorious by seven wickets and sealed their top-two spot.
