BCCI set to announce the new Test captain on May 23. It is also learnt that the board will soon announce the squad for India A games ahead of the main series.
With the sudden retirement of Rohit Sharma from Test cricket, there is an urgent need to select a new Test captain, with the England series and WTC cycle ahead. The Board of Control for Cricket in India will announce the replacement of the former captain Rohit Sharma on May 23. Additionally, the India A squad is expected to be revealed soon.
The Indian cricket team is all set to face England in the five-match test series. The series will begin on June 20 in Leeds, marking the beginning of the new cycle of the ICC World Test Championship.
India A team will face England A in a two-match four-day contest. A few of the main players, expected to be in the official squad, will also play in this series. So, this will serve as crucial preparation for the players before the big series.
Reportedly, BCCI is set to reveal the India A team in the next couple of days. The first match will be played from May 30, followed by the second game from June 6.
Some of the domestic players, including Karun Nair, Sai Sudharsan, Devdutt Padikkal, and others, are set to be included in India A. These players will aim to perform well, as it can be their chance to make it to the main team.
The team for the main squad for the five-test series against England could be announced on any date from May 19 to May 21. The BCCI will also name the captain around the same time.
The need for a new captain arose because of Rohit Sharma’s sudden retirement from test cricket. Shubman Gill is the most popular candidate to replace Rohit and become the next captain of Test cricket.
