In a surprising turn of events, the UAE retired all 10 of their batters against Qatar. They scored 192 for 0 in 16 overs.
The United Arab Emirates cricket team retired all of their batters during the Women’s T20 World Cup Asia Qualifiers 2025. This is the first time a team has dismissed itself by retiring all 10 batters, in a men’s or women’s T20. UAE then bowled out Qatar for just 29 runs that featured seven ducks. They won with a massive 163 margin in a match that lasted just 27.1 overs in total.
Since the UAE team also had eight ducks, the game saw a record 15 ducks registered, easily the most in a women’s T20.
UAE won the toss and, deciding to bat first, they began their innings strongly. The UAE openers Esha Oza and captain Theertha Satish built a strong partnership, slamming 192 runs with no wickets in 16 overs. With Oza on 113 and Satish on 74, they decided to effectively declare their innings anticipating potential rain interruptions.
However, declaring an innings is not allowed in T20Is. But they achieved this by retiring all 10 of their batters. Once Oza and Satish walked off with 192 runs on the scoreboard, different pairs of batters kept coming to the crease and then walking off to show they were being retired out.
Qatar in response lasted only 11.1 overs as only 3 batters scored and only one of them got past 5 runs. Opener Rizpha Bano Emmanuel was the top scorer with 20 and saw four wickets fall in front of her as UAE spinner Michelle Botha finished with 3 wickets for 11. Once Emmanuel got run out in eight overs, Qatar only lasted 20 more balls and added three more runs.
