All IPL franchises have disbanded with their teams, and players are expected to return home, while the IPL is suspended for a week. However, there is still hope about IPL being played to conclusion within this month as the BCCI is looking for alternative venues.

However, as per ESPNCricinfo, the franchises are aware of the fact that not all overseas players might return for the remaining IPL matches. If the schedule is pushed beyond the initial dates, it might coincide with their previous cricketing commitments.

Franchises Unsure About Players Returning

“While the franchises remain optimistic that most overseas players would return if the tournament were to resume later in May, they admitted there would be no guarantees if the window extended beyond May 25, when the IPL 2025 final was scheduled to be played in Kolkata,” read ESPN’s report on the situation.

“That’s because of the bilateral commitments for several players, as well as the World Test Championship (WTC) final between Australia and South Africa, starting on June 11 at Lord’s,” further explained the report. Australian players such as Josh Hazlewood and Pat Cummins, along with South African players Tristan Stubbs, Marco Jansen, and Kagiso Rabada, are expected to play in the final.

West Indies Tours Cause Difficulties

Additionally, a series between England and the West Indies will begin on May 29. The West Indies also have an ODI series against Ireland starting on May 21, which already clashed with the end of the IPL season. Sherfane Rutherford of GT and Romario Shepherd of RCB are two IPL regulars included in the ODI squad.

The Board of Control for Cricket in India is currently looking at South Indian cities, including Hyderabad, Bangalore, and Chennai, to act as venues for the remaining matches of the league. This also includes the interrupted PBKS vs DC match held in Dharamsala.
