The BCCI has chosen three cities—Bengaluru, Chennai, and Hyderabad—to host the remaining matches of IPL 2025, if the Indian government allows the tournament to continue in May. IPL 2025 was suspended last week due to rising tensions between India and Pakistan.
Originally, Eden Gardens in Kolkata was scheduled to host Qualifier 2 and the Final. But now, that plan may change. If the tournament resumes in May, the final might not be held at Eden Gardens, as per a report by ESPNcricinfo.
So far, 57 matches have been played this season. The 58th match, between Punjab Kings and Delhi Capitals, was stopped after 10.1 overs and has not been completed.
The BCCI has not fixed a deadline to confirm whether the remaining 16 matches can happen this month. If not, they might push the rest of the season to later this year.
One major concern is the return of overseas players, many of whom have already left for their home countries. Without government approval soon, it will be difficult to bring all players back in time.
Meanwhile, four Australian cricketers narrowly avoided danger in Pakistan. Sean Abbott, Ben Dwarshuis, Ashton Turner, and Mitch Owen were part of the Pakistan Super League (PSL). They flew out just hours before missile strikes hit a nearby airbase.
The Nur Khan airbase, which is close to Islamabad, was hit by an Indian missile strike, according to reports. The players had just left from that location to Dubai.
In the rush to leave, the players left behind their kits and luggage. Authorities are now trying to recover their belongings. Several English and New Zealand players were also on the flight out of Pakistan.
Officials are now discussing new locations and timelines for both the IPL and PSL. One idea being considered is to host the rest of IPL 2025 in England, if it can’t resume in India soon.
