England pacer Tom Curran has responded to recent reports that claimed he broke down in fear during the India-Pakistan conflict. Curran firmly denied these reports and said that the situation was tough, but he did not cry. The fast bowler, who plays for Lahore Qalandars in the Pakistan Super League (PSL), shared his thoughts on Instagram.
“I’m glad to see things resuming, and I pray for peace between two very special countries,” Curran wrote. He added humorously, “Btw promise, I didn’t cry; was ready,” with a laughing emoji.
This controversy started after Bangladesh all-rounder Rishad Hossain made a statement to Cricbuzz. Rishad claimed that during the rising tensions, Curran tried to leave Pakistan but was told the airport was closed. He then added that Curran “cried like a child” and had to be handled by others.
“He went to the airport but heard it was closed. Then he started crying like a little child,” Rishad said.
The comment quickly spread on social media and news outlets. Many people questioned the professionalism and sensitivity of Rishad’s remarks, especially during a difficult time for many players.
After backlash, Rishad issued a public apology to both Tom Curran and New Zealand’s Daryl Mitchell, who was also mentioned in the reports.
“I’m aware that my recent comment has created confusion and a false perception. It lacked full context and overstated the emotions involved,” Rishad clarified in a statement.
He also said that he had offered an unconditional apology to both players and hoped to move past the issue.
The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) confirmed that the PSL would resume on May 17, after a ceasefire between India and Pakistan. PCB chairman Mohsin Naqvi announced that a revised schedule would be released soon, and the final will be played on May 25.
Tom Curran’s denial brings clarity to a sensitive issue. Fans and players now hope that cricket continues without any further off-field drama.
