Sanju Samson has passed his fitness test and is set to return as captain of Rajasthan Royals (RR) for the remainder of IPL 2025. This is a big boost for the Royals as they gear up for their match against Punjab Kings on May 18 at the Sawai Mansingh Stadium in Jaipur.
Samson missed several games this season due to injury and has played only seven matches so far. His last appearance came against Delhi Capitals at the Arun Jaitley Stadium.
Speaking at the pre-match press conference, Samson shared his feelings about the tough phase. “I passed my fitness test, so I’m available for the game. It was frustrating to sit out. Watching from the dugout while the team struggled was mentally challenging. But that’s part of a cricketer’s journey. I’m now focused on the positives,” Samson said.
Even though Rajasthan Royals are out of the playoff race, Samson’s return gives the team a chance to end their campaign on a high.
While Samson is back, Rajasthan Royals will miss star pacer Jofra Archer. He suffered an injury during their last match against Kolkata Knight Riders and will not play against Punjab Kings. His absence is a setback for RR’s bowling attack.
IPL 2025 resumed after a brief suspension caused by political tensions between India and Pakistan. The league continued with match 58 between Royal Challengers Bengaluru and Kolkata Knight Riders, but rain forced the game to be abandoned.
Now, all eyes are on game 59, as Rajasthan Royals face Punjab Kings with their regular skipper back in charge.
