Former Indian cricketer Sanjay Manjrekar has praised the Mumbai Indians (MI) for making a strong comeback in the IPL 2025 season. After a poor start, MI are now back in the race for the playoffs.
Mumbai Indians lost four of their first five matches. They struggled with team combinations and looked unsettled. But the five-time champions bounced back by winning six games in a row. They now sit at the fourth position on the IPL 2025 points table with 14 points from 12 matches. Their net run rate is also strong at +1.156.
Manjrekar praised several MI players for performing under pressure. He highlighted the form of Suryakumar Yadav and the impact of key players like Hardik Pandya, Jasprit Bumrah, and Rohit Sharma.
“Suryakumar is having one of his best IPL seasons. MI always perform in big moments because of players like Hardik, Bumrah, and Rohit,” Manjrekar said while speaking on JioHotstar.
He compared them to Chennai Super Kings’ players in the past, saying, “Just like CSK had Shane Watson and Mike Hussey for crucial games, MI also have their own match-winners.”
Manjrekar said MI looked confused in the early part of the season, but now they have found the right roles for their players. He also mentioned that the team has handled the absence of some overseas players well.
“Even if players like Ryan Rickelton and Will Jacks are not available, MI have managed to use their bench strength well. They looked unsure at first, but now they have clarity,” he added.
Mumbai Indians have two important league matches left. They will play against Delhi Capitals on May 21 and Punjab Kings on May 26. If MI win both games, they will qualify for the playoffs. Even one win might be enough, depending on the results of other teams, thanks to their high net run rate.
