Mumbai Indians’ stalwart Rohit Sharma, known for his calm demeanour and batting brilliance, won hearts off the field with a delightful moment ahead of the all-important IPL 2025 Qualifier 2 against Punjab Kings. In a clip shared by Mumbai Indians on social media, the star batter was seen interacting with a group of young fans at the Narendra Modi Stadium. Among them, one curious child asked a cheeky question:
“Sir, aapko kaise out karne ka?” (“Sir, how can we get you out?”)
Without missing a beat, Rohit replied with a smile,
“Nahi, wo nahi ho sakta.” (“No, that can’t happen.”)
The response, laced with humour and swagger, quickly went viral, earning praise from fans and former players alike for Rohit’s humble and witty charm.
The interaction happened on the eve of the high-stakes clash, where MI and PBKS were set to battle it out for a place in the final against Royal Challengers Bengaluru. Such light-hearted moments have added to Rohit’s reputation as a fan favourite, especially among the younger audience.
Just days before this interaction, Rohit had delivered a crucial performance in the Eliminator against Gujarat Titans at Mullanpur. Batting with fluency and control, he laid the foundation for MI’s 20-run win, guiding them to Qualifier 2. It was a reminder of Rohit’s pedigree in big matches — a trait that has become synonymous with his name over the years.
Former India batter Robin Uthappa lauded Rohit’s approach during the match on JioStar’s Match Centre Live.
“After an early drop, Rohit briefly flirted with danger but quickly composed himself. He rotated strike, found the gaps, and stitched crucial partnerships. His presence alone shifts pressure onto the opposition. Players like Rohit, Dhoni, and Kohli don’t just bat — they control the narrative. Sai Sudharsan is also beginning to show signs of that maturity.”
Rohit’s form has been steady this season. Across 14 matches in IPL 2025, he has scored 410 runs at an average of 31.53 and a striking rate of 150.18. His campaign includes four half-centuries and a best score of 81, making him the second-highest scorer for MI this season behind Suryakumar Yadav, who has amassed 673 runs in 15 innings.
The Eliminator also saw Rohit Sharma etch his name deeper into the annals of IPL history. He became only the second cricketer after Virat Kohli to breach the 7000-run mark in the league. His current IPL tally stands at 7038 runs from 271 matches, averaging 29.82, with two centuries and 47 fifties to his name. His highest score remains 109 not out.
The landmark is a testament to Rohit’s consistency and longevity in a format that has evolved rapidly. From his early days with the Deccan Chargers to leading Mumbai Indians to multiple IPL titles, Rohit has been a pillar of Indian T20 cricket for over a decade and a half.
