Ravindra Jadeja Reflects on India's Confidence-Boosting Win Against Nepal

Team India secured a convincing 10-wicket victory over Nepal in their Asia Cup 2023 encounter, marking their successful qualification for the Super Four stage. After the opening game against Pakistan was abandoned due to rain, India faced Nepal, and their comprehensive win provided a significant confidence boost for the team.

Nepal batted first and posted a total of 230 runs in the first innings. Rain interruptions during various phases of the match led to India having a revised target of 145 runs to chase down in 23 overs. Openers Rohit Sharma and Shubman Gill showcased exceptional performances during the run chase, with Rohit scoring an unbeaten 74 runs off 59 deliveries, and Gill contributing 67* runs off 62 deliveries. Their outstanding batting display led India to a resounding 10-wicket victory and secured their spot in the Super Four stage.Reflecting on the win, veteran all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja expressed the significance of this victory for the team. Jadeja acknowledged that India had faced Nepal for the first time and were unfamiliar with the shots their opponents could play. However, this dominant win provided much-needed confidence to the Indian team.

Jadeja said

“As a team, we won by 10 wickets, so the overall confidence is good. As a team, you need that win before the big games. This is a good win for the team. We were playing Nepal for the first time and did not know what shots they could play,” commented Ravindra Jadeja in a video shared by the BCCI.

Jadeja also highlighted the strong start Nepal had in the match, emphasizing the team’s uncertainty about Nepal’s strengths and go-to shots. He mentioned that he and Kuldeep Yadav came in to control the game, particularly in the middle overs, where spinners play a crucial role. Jadeja’s focus was on bowling stump to stump, contributing to India’s success in restricting Nepal’s batting lineup.

This victory not only secured India’s progress in the Asia Cup but also instilled confidence and momentum for the upcoming challenges in the tournament. As the Super Four stage approaches, Team India will look to build on this success and continue their strong performances.
