Rohit Sharma has revealed his wish to play the 2027 ODI World Cup during a recent interview. This came after the news about his immediate retirement from test cricket.
Indian team skipper Rohit Sharma announced his retirement from test cricket, and also dropped a big hint about his future in ODI cricket. He has now shifted his focus to the 2027 ODI World Cup.
Rohit took to Instagram to share the news of his retirement on May 7, during the ongoing IPL season. He explained that he will continue to play One-Day Internationals.
“Hello, everyone. I would just like to share that I am retiring from Test cricket. It’s been an absolute honour to represent my country in whites,” Rohit wrote on his Instagram story.
“Thank you for all the love and support over the years. I will continue to represent India in the ODI format,” he added.
In a recent interview with journalist Vimal Kumar, Rohit opened up about the 2023 World Cup final loss to Australia. He said that with his retirements from T20Is and tests, now the focus is on winning the upcoming ODI World Cup in 2027. It will be hosted in South Africa, Zimbabwe, and Namibia. Rohit stated that the World Cup is still very much on his mind.
“Zehem mein bilkul hai (on playing ODI World Cup 2027). Bilkul [It’s definitely on my mind. Absolutely],” Rohit said.
“Acha rahega agar aisa hua to (on adding the ODI World Cup to his cabinet) [It would be great if that happens],” he added.
Rohit Sharma has won four ICC trophies – two T20 World Cups (2007 and 2024) and the Champions Trophy twice (2013 and 2025). Two of those titles in particular came under Rohit’s captaincy.
