No Holding Back: Gill Slams Teammates After IPL Elimination

Gujarat Titans skipper Shubman Gill did not hold back expressing his disappointment after repeated errors from the team. He was critical of his teammates for making mistakes during a crucial match.

Gujarat Titans’ hopes of a title win were shattered after Mumbai Indians defeated them in Qualifier 1 on Friday in Mullanpur. Despite some good knocks from their batters, GT failed to chase the total of 228.

‘Doesn’t help when you drop 3 catches’

The five-time champions amassed 228 runs, largely due to Rohit Sharma’s stunning knock of 81 off 50. However, Rohit received two reprieves as GT fielders dropped two catches which could’ve dismissed him. One was dropped by Gerald Coetzee in the deep and once by Kusal Perera behind the stumps. Rohit took advantage of these opportunities and punished GT with a brilliant knock.

Suryakumar Yadav’s catch was also dropped, adding to GT’s chaos on the field. Skipper Shubman Gill was displeased with the performance. He blamed the poor fielding efforts for making the bowlers’ job more difficult.

“Definitely not easy when we drop 3 sitters. Wasn’t easy for the bowlers to control and doesn’t help when you drop 3 catches,” said Gill in the post-match interview. He pointed out that these errors cost GT the match and knocked them out of the tournament.

Total Proved Extreme for GT to Chase

The missed chances by the Titans allowed Mumbai’s batters to post a commanding total of 228. If those catches had been taken, GT might have kept MI to a lower score. In a game they lost by just 20 runs, those missed opportunities could have made all the difference in the chase.

In the end, the target proved to be too much for Gujarat. Despite a strong partnership between Sai Sudharsan (80) and Washington Sundar (48), GT fell for MI’s bowling. Mumbai won the match and sealed their place in Qualifier 2 against Punjab Kings.
