Mumbai Indians captain Hardik Pandya was fined for a slow over-rate during the match against GT. Also, GT’s head coach Ashish Nehra was fined and given a demerit point for conduct that was “contrary to the spirit of the game”.

BCCI has taken strict action against Hardik Pandya and Ashish Nehra for breaching the IPL code of conduct during their clash on Tuesday.

Disciplinary Action Against Pandya and Nehra

Hardik Pandya was fined for a slow-over rate, which was Mumbai Indians’ second such offence of the season. Therefore, he was given a penalty of Rs. 24 Lakh, while the rest of the team, including the impact player and concussion substitute, were each fined either Rs. 6 Lakh or 25% of their match fees, whichever was lesser.

Nehra, on the other hand, was fined for behaviour that was deemed as contrary to the spirit of the game. Although the IPL officials did not emphasise the details, he was clearly frustrated during the rain-interrupted match and was involved in heated arguments with the on-field umpires.

For breaching Article 2.20 of the IPL code of conduct, Nehra was fined 25% of his match fees and handed a demerit point.

Official Statement by IPL

Confirming Pandya’s penalty, the IPL said in an official statement: “As it was his team’s second offence of the season under the IPL’s Code of Conduct relating to minimum over-rate offences, Pandya was fined Rs 24 lakh.”

On Nehra’s conduct, the league added: “Ashish Nehra, Head Coach, Gujarat Titans, has been fined 25% of his match fees and has also accumulated one demerit point for breaching the IPL Code of Conduct.

He admitted to the Level 1 offence under Article 2.20 – which pertains to conduct that is contrary to the spirit of the game – and accepted the match referee’s sanction.” For Level 1 breaches, the match referee’s decision is final and binding.
