Amid the heat of the IPL 2025 tournament, Kolkata Knight Riders plan to honour brave women and their strength through a special gesture.
Kolkata Knight Riders is set to put on a special jersey for their final match at home against Chennai Super Kings on Wednesday. The team also wore a somewhat different jersey during the practice session.
All of this is a part of the “Shahoshi Rani” initiative, which is aimed at upskilling women in underserved communities. Shahoshi Rani is a Bengali term which translates to “brave women”.
This initiative honours women who have shown extraordinary resilience and strength in the face of adversity.
KKR works to create an impact outside the cricket world through impactful programs like Play It Forward, Skill Up for Equality, and the Vidushee Programme.
As per the campaign, 40 ranis were present at the KKR practice session, and got the chance to watch the team train and interact with the players and coaching staff. They also spent some time with the team’s co-owner, Juhi Chawla.
Along with the customised logo, the players and team staff will also don the name of a Shahoshi rani on the back of their jersey to honour them at Eden Gardens.
“Shahoshi Rani is more than just a campaign, it’s a celebration of real courage. These women are an inspiration, and we are honoured to share our platform with them. We hope their stories move others as much as they’ve moved us,” Chawla said in a statement.
KKR stands in sixth position in the points table with 11 points in 11 matches. They have won and lost five matches each till now. Having won only 2 matches out of six home matches this season, Ajinkya Rahane-led playing XI would want to end their home game journey on a high note.
