Operation Sindoor could have an impact on IPL matches in Dharamsala. While Punjab Kings and Delhi Capitals are already there, Mumbai Indians are yet to reach.
Several airports along the borders of Pakistan-Jammu, Leh, Srinagar, Jodhpur, Amritsar, Bhuj, Jamnagar, Chandigarh, and Rajkot have been closed until 5:30 AM IST on May 10. This action was taken as India hit Pakistan’s terrorist camps as part of Operation Sindoor. Many airlines have already issued guidelines and suspended operations due to the geopolitical tension.
On Wednesday, India struck nine camps linked to Pakistani terrorists. The government clarified that the targets were strictly non-military, and the strikes were “measured, focused and non-escalatory.”
Operation Sindoor, launched by India, is now set to affect the Indian Premier League. It has impacted the plans of teams who are already in Dharamsala and who were supposed to reach there this week.
Punjab Kings (PBKS) and Delhi Capitals (DC) are already in Dharamsala, while Mumbai Indians (MI) were scheduled to reach later this week.
“We will have to wait and watch for now. There is no option because even Chandigarh airport is shut, so we need to see what can be done. The two teams are already here, and MI were supposed to arrive later this week for their match on May 11.
The nearest option is the Delhi airport, but that would mean a long road journey for the teams. We are tracking government advisories and will take the call as necessary,” said a senior BCCI official.
PBKS and DC have not heard anything from BCCI, which means their match will take place as scheduled. However, MI’s plan could be altered if the airline situation doesn’t change.
Dharamsala is set to host two matches this week, but the current airspace conditions could force the Indian Cricket to keep alternatives ready.
