Operation Sindoor Sparks Uncertainty Over Foreign Players in PSL

Rumours surrounding the exit of overseas players from the Pakistan Super League amid India’s successful strike on Pakistan early on Wednesday have caused a stir. Meanwhile, PCB has given an official statement on the matter.

India’s Missile Strike

The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has claimed that the PSL will go on without any interruption despite the geopolitical tension with India. The Indian Armed Forces, in the early hours of Wednesday, launched precision missile strikes on nine terror targets in Pakistan and Pakistan Occupied Kashmir (POK). The targets included territories held by Jaish-e-Mohammed in Bahawalpur and Lashkar-e-Taiba in Muridke. The Indian Army has called it ‘Operation Sindoor’.

The strikes came in the form of retaliation for the April 22 terror attack in Pahalgam, in which 26 people, 25 Indians and 1 Nepali Citizen, lost their lives.

Official Statement from PCB

An official in the Pakistan Cricket Board has revealed that so far, no overseas player has put in a request to leave the league despite the cross-border tensions. At least 3 media managers of the six franchises of the league have claimed that no overseas player has requested to exit PSL. Each franchise has 5-6 overseas players in their squad.

The PCB said the match scheduled between Islamabad United and Quetta Gladiators will take place at the Rawalpindi Cricket Stadium. Rawalpindi will be hosting matches on May 7, 8, 9 and 10. Thereafter the final group stage match is scheduled in Multan on 11 May.

The Qualifier will take place in Rawalpindi on 13 May, while both Eliminators (1 and 2) and Final of the star event are to take place on 14, 16 and 18 May, respectively at the Gaddafi Stadium.
