Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) have received a setback with their young pace revelation, Mayank Yadav, ruled out for the next two matches due to a minor hip injury. This news comes just as Yadav was establishing himself as a key player for LSG, bagging back-to-back Player of the Match awards in his first two appearances.

A Dream Debut Followed by Injury Concerns

Mayank Yadav’s arrival in the IPL was nothing short of spectacular.  Making his debut against Punjab Kings, the 21-year-old quick impressed everyone with a searing 155.8 km/h delivery and a match-winning spell of 3/27.  His performance earned him the prestigious Player of the Match award.

Building on his successful debut, Yadav repeated the feat in LSG’s next match against Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB), clinching another 3 wickets and securing his second consecutive Player of the Match award.

Injury Strikes During Gujarat Titans Match

However, during LSG’s subsequent encounter against the Gujarat Titans (GT), Yadav encountered a hurdle.  According to LSG head coach Justin Langer, the young pacer felt “a little bit of tightness at the top of his hip” before the match.  While initial clinical signs seemed positive, Yadav experienced discomfort while bowling his first over against the Titans.

An MRI scan later revealed a “very, very small swelling” in Yadav’s hip, prompting LSG to take a cautious approach.  The team is confident that Yadav can recover quickly and rejoin the squad soon.  “We are very hopeful he’ll start building himself up and be back bowling again soon,” stated Langer.

LSG Looks to Maintain Momentum in Yadav’s Absence

Mayank Yadav’s absence is a blow to LSG, who are currently enjoying a strong start to their IPL campaign.  The Lucknow-based franchise sits comfortably in third place on the points table with three wins and a loss from their first four matches.

While Yadav will miss the upcoming matches against Delhi Capitals (DC) and Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR), LSG will hope their bowling attack can maintain their momentum.  The team will be aiming to continue their winning ways and maintain their position in the top half of the IPL 2024 table.
