Ravindra Jadeja has set a new record in test cricket by becoming the player with longest streak as the No. 1 all-rounder in test history. He rewrote the records with his impressive performance in the red-ball format.
Indian all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja overtook West Indies’ Jason Holder to become the world’s best test all-rounder in March 2022. He has been at the top since then.
The ICC has recently announced the new ranking for test all-rounders. Jadeja with 400 rating points sits at the top of the standings. He has set a record of staying at the top of the all-rounders rankings for the longest period of 1,152 days in test cricket.
Bangladesh‘s Mehidy Hasan Miraz and South Africa’s Marco Jansen were Jadeja’s closest competitors. Miraz took the second spot with 327 rating points, while Jansen slipped to the third spot with 294 rating points.
Australia‘s Pat Cummins and Bangladesh’s Shakib Al Hasan completed the top five all-rounders. Jadeja is the only Indian all-rounder in the top 10 list.
Jadeja has become the first player to remain at the top spot for so long. He overtook cricket legends like Jacques Kallis, Kapil Dev, and Imran Khan.
Since his test debut in 2012 against England, he has scored 3370 runs in 80 matches at an average of 34.74. This includes 4 centuries and 22 fifties. He has 323 wickets to his name.
In 2019, he became the quickest left-arm spinner to complete 200 test wickets. Since March 2022, he has scored 1,175 runs from 23 Tests at 36.71 with the help of three tons and five fifties.
The first time Jadeja took the top spot of the ICC Test all-rounder ranking was in 2017. He remained there for one week.
Jadeja’s next Test assignment is a five-match series against England, starting on June 20.
