The IPL 2025 final won’t be the first time Rajat Patidar and Shreyas Iyer will go head-to-head in a final. The captain duo faced each other before in a high-stakes final during the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy 2024.
Royal Challengers Bengaluru and Punjab Kings are set to face each other in the ultimate showdown for the IPL 2025 title win. The IPL final on June 3 will echo their clash from the domestic cricket’s biggest T20 league.
The Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy final played at M. Chinnaswamy Stadium had many thrilling moments. Patidar, leading Madhya Pradesh, produced a stunning knock of 81 off just 40 balls. He handled MP’s batting after their middle order collapsed. His crucial knock helped MP put up 174/8 on the scoreboard.
Mumbai’s bowlers – Tushar Deshpande, Royston Dias, Atharva Ankolekar, and Suryansh Shedge – bowled to keep pressure on MP’s batters. Then, Mumbai’s experienced top order made sure they won the match.
In the chase, Mumbai lost Prithvi Shaw in the second over. Ajinkya Rahane and Shreyas then added 32 runs for the second wicket before the latter was dismissed by Tripuresh Singh in the fifth over.
Suryakumar Yadav slammed 48 runs off 35 balls, while Rahane scored 37 runs. But it was Surynash Shedge who finished the game with an unbeaten 36 runs off just 15 balls.
Now in the IPL 2025, the stakes are high, as both teams have never been crowned champion in the league. RCB last played in the final in 2016, when they lost to Sunrisers Hyderabad. Punjab last featured in the final in 2014 against Kolkata Knight Riders.
RCB defeated PBKS in Qualifier 1 by 8 wickets by halting their innings at just 101 in 14.1 overs. However, PBKS made a comeback by beating Mumbai Indians in the Qualifier 2.
