Bumrah Asks Jayawardene to Stay Calm During Heated MI Moment

Mumbai Indians’ pacer Jasprit Bumrah did not seem inclined to listen to MI’s head coach Mahela Jayawardene. The former Sri-Lankan batter was seen giving some instructions during the high-stakes Eliminator against Gujarat Titans.

Mumbai Indians won the Eliminator game against Gujarat Titans by 20 runs in Mullanpur on Friday. But GT tried their best to chase down the total of 228 with their batter producing crucial innings to win the match. Mumbai Indians were engaged in an intense battle to secure a spot in Qualifier 2.

Bumrah Tells Coach to Relax

Gujarat Titans managed to keep up with the required run rate despite Shubman Gill losing his wicket in the first over. Sai Sudharsan (80) and Washington Sundar (48) added 84 runs for the third wicket. When the duo were batting well, the entire Mumbai dugout looked worried. During this, MI head coach Mahela Jayawardene and the team kept giving instructions, including to Jasprit Bumrah, who was standing at the boundary.

Jayawardene, along with MI batting coach Kieron Pollard, tried to get Bumrah to listen. But the pacer did not seem willing to listen to the former batter. When Jaywardene spoke a few words, Bumrah was seen telling him to relax. He gestured to the coach to calm down, rejecting his advice.

When the incident happened, Jatin Sapru, who was on the Hindi broadcast at that time, said, “Bumrah is basically saying ‘Relax, I know my job well. I am here. You stay calm and just give me a chance.”

Bumrah’s Brilliance

In the end, it all came down to Bumrah to help Mumbai Indians win. Hardik Pandya gave Bumrah his third over as MI needed a wicket. The pacer bowled a perfect yorker and bowled out Washington. Soon after, Sudharsan got dismissed and GT ended up losing by 20 runs.

Bumrah has picked up 18 wickets this season in 11 innings so far. He has bowled at an economy rate of 6.36 and an average of 15.33. His best performance with the ball was 4/22 against Lucknow Super Giants.
