The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) has confirmed that the national team will play a two-match T20I series against the UAE. The matches will be held in Sharjah on May 17 and 19. The team will leave for Dubai later this week.
However, the team’s five-match T20I tour of Pakistan is uncertain. This series was planned from May 25 to June 3. But rising tension between India and Pakistan has raised safety concerns. The BCB has not made a final decision yet.
On May 10, the BCB held a meeting at the Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium in Dhaka. After the meeting, officials said that Bangladesh will tour the UAE as planned. But they have put the Pakistan tour on hold for now.
The BCB is in talks with the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB). They want to make sure the players and staff will be safe before deciding on the tour. “The safety of our team is our top priority,” the BCB said in an official statement.
Two Bangladeshi cricketers, Rishad Hossain and Nahid Rana, returned home from the Pakistan Super League (PSL) on May 9. Rishad played for Lahore Qalandars, and Rana was part of Peshawar Zalmi. They will now prepare with the national team for the UAE tour.
The team is expected to travel to the UAE by mid-week. The players will focus on the two T20Is in Sharjah.
India and Pakistan have agreed to a ceasefire after recent border tensions. But the situation is still sensitive. The BCB says they are watching the situation closely. They will make a final call on the Pakistan tour only after reviewing the conditions.
If the tour is cancelled, it will be a major blow to both boards. The series was a key part of Bangladesh’s preparation for upcoming tournaments.
For now, all eyes are on the UAE series. Fans will hope for some clarity on the Pakistan tour in the coming days
