Delhi Capitals to face a major setback as the Rs. 11.75 Crore overseas player, Mitchell Starc, might not return for IPL 2025 resumption. The IPL is set to resume later this week.
Currently sitting at 5th in the point table, DC is set to receive a serious blow for the remaining matches this season. The left-arm pacer, Mitchell Starc, will most likely not return to India for the tournament.
Following the Indo-Pak military tensions, the Indian Premier League was suspended for a week. With safety concerns for the squads, the BCCI took action to suspend the league with some matches remaining.
Australian cricketers touched down in their respective cities following the suspension. Starc landed in Sydney on Sunday but refused to speak to the media on the matter.
However, Starc’s manager told Australia’s Nine News that he might not return to India due to the conflict. As per The Age, Cricket Australia will back its players should they decide not to return for the remainder of the league.
Starc is not the only Australian whose participation in the IPL is in question. Sunrisers Hyderabad players Pat Cummins and Travis Head may choose not to return as they are already out of playoff contention. They may opt to remain in Australia and prepare for the WTC final against South Africa starting June 11.
With India and Pakistan calling a ceasefire, the BCCI is planning to resume the league. Reportedly, IPL 2025 might resume late this week, with the final to be played on May 30.
Although there is no official confirmation, the board has told all franchises to bring back their players by Tuesday. All overseas players returned home after the PBKS vs DC match was called off midway due to safety concerns. Now, with the tournament set to resume soon, reports have come out suggesting that foreign players might not return
