As the world is trying to accept the end of an era with Virat Kohli’s retirement from test cricket, heartfelt messages from around the world have come in. Now, Virat’s childhood coach, Rajkumar Sharma, has written an emotional message.
Sharma posted on Instagram, reflecting on Virat’s journey from a child to a cricketing legend.
“From a young boy with dreams in his eyes to a legend who conquered the red-ball arena – your journey has been nothing short of extraordinary, Virat. Watching you grow, fight, lead, and inspire has been the greatest joy of my life. You redefined passion and dedication. Test cricket will miss your fire, but your legacy will live forever. Grateful for every moment shared in this incredible journey. I am proud of you @virat.kohli.”
He was also seen having an interaction with ANI, saying: “Well, I must salute him for his tremendous contribution to Indian cricket and as a coach I am really proud of him, what he has done for the country and what example he has set for the youngsters, you know.”
“But emotionally it hurts that we won’t be seeing him in whites again for the country, but I really appreciate and back his decision fully. Definitely, that was unfortunate that we lost in the final, but yes, hopefully this time we’ll be there to win the World Cup for India and he’ll be 100% committed to it,” he concluded.
Virat’s father first introduced him to Sharma in 1998. Sharma has been Kohli’s guide and coach since his youth, shaping his cricketing career and instilling discipline and dedication.
Their bond, built over 27 years, is rooted in respect and admiration. Even today, Sharma is a trusted figure in Virat’s life.
