Marcus Harris Inches Closer to WTC Final Selection With County Championship Century

Australian cricketer Marcus Harris has increased his chances for selection in the World Test Championship. His century in the County Championship can earn him a spot in the final against South Africa.

Australia’s left-hand opener, Marcus Harris, slammed a century in the County Championship. As per the ICC official website, his power innings have increased his chances of getting selected for the WTC final starting on June 11.

Harris’s Ton in the County Championship

Harris put up 121 runs during Lancashire’s first innings of their four-day match against Northamptonshire. This performance proved his skills ahead of the WTC final against South Africa, indicating he could be useful in the final.

It was Harris’s third century of the County season. The 32-year-old is leading the run-scorer charts in Division 2 of the County Championship. With 749 runs in 10 innings, his batting average sits at 83.22.

Harris was again the top scorer in the second innings with 43 runs, but Lancashire lost to Northamptonshire by 70 runs. His strong batting form is surely going to attract attention with the WTC final just a month away.

Harris has not played a Test for Australia since early 2022. Despite being in the squad, he was still left out of the 2023 World Test Championship final. Meanwhile, a possible opening at the top of the batting order could prove to be another chance for him.

Other County Championship Stars

Cameron Green and Beau Webster have shown good form in the County Championship. They may battle it out for a place in the middle-order. Harris, on the other hand, has a chance to be selected in Australia’s squad for the WTC final, thanks to his recent form.
