Lucknow Super Giants pacer Akash Deep has spoken out on skipper Rishabh Pant’s struggles this IPL season. He stated that Pant is a victim of bad timing, defending his captain.
Rishabh Pant has received a great deal of criticism this season for his underwhelming performance. Despite being the most expensive purchase in the mega auction, Pant was unable to prove his worth. However, one of his teammates believes that it is time that is not on Pant’s side.
Akash Deep has backed his captain, Rishabh Pant, saying the keeper-batter is a victim of poor timing.
“I feel that in cricket, timing is also something very important. I don’t think it’s about pressure because Rishabh has played a lot of cricket, and at a very high level too, and he has performed as well. An athlete who has achieved so much in life knows how to handle pressure. So I don’t think pressure is the reason. It’s more about timing—sometimes you want to do something, but it just doesn’t happen. I feel that’s the phase Rishabh is going through right now.”
LSG brought Pant into the team for INR 27 crore. However, he had a disappointing season in IPL 2025. He managed to score only 151 runs in 13 matches at an average of 13.73 and a strike rate of under 100.
Pant’s challenges did not end with his batting. His captaincy has also been under scrutiny following frequent changes in the batting order and bowling rotations. LSG’s disappointing season also ignited rumours about Pant’s future with the franchise.
Rumours suggested that LSG might release him ahead of the next season. Dismissing these rumours, Pant reaffirmed his commitment to the team.
