Royal Challengers Bengaluru has achieved what no other team managed to do in 18 years of the Indian Premier League. Along with completing their highest chase yet, the franchise also etched their name in the records book with another feat.
On Tuesday, RCB broke new ground in a way no team has before. The Bengaluru based franchise became the only team to win all away matches in a season. The win against LSG also took them to the No. 2 spot, ensuring two shots at the final.
RCB achieved the unprecedented milestone by defeating Lucknow Super Giants at the Ekana Cricket Stadium in Lucknow. Seven of their nine wins came in away games. In 2012, Kolkata Knight Riders and Mumbai Indians secured seven wins. However, each lost a match away from their home ground.
Notably, RCB did lose a game against Sunrisers Hyderabad at Ekana. But that match was shifted from M. Chinnaswamy due to extreme weather conditions. Thus, technically, that match at Ekana was a home game or rather a neutral venue for RCB.
Royal Challengers Bengaluru — 7/7 in IPL 2025
Mumbai Indians — 7/8 in IPL 2012
Kolkata Knight Riders — 7/8 in IPL 2012
Gujarat Titans — 6/7 in IPL 2023
Delhi Daredevils — 6/8 in IPL 2012
Virat completed his fifty off 27 balls, Mayank Agarwal (41*) and Jitesh Sharma (85*) together smashed 107 runs off 45 balls and finished RCB’s chase with 8 balls remaining.
RCB ended their league stage with 19 points in 14 matches this season. They finished second in the standings for the first time in 9 years. They finished with the same points as Punjab Kings, but the NRR 0.30 put RCB behind them.
On Tuesday, Royal Challengers Bengaluru completed their highest chase ever in the Indian Premier League. They will face Punjab Kings in Qualifier 1 on Thursday.
