Royal Challengers Bengaluru’s stand-in captain Jitesh Sharma celebrated the team’s win in a different fashion. The celebration reminded fans of Avesh Khan’s act from last year.
RCB keeper-batter Jitesh Sharma smashed his highest knock of his T20 career on Tuesday against LSG. He produced a brilliant innings of 85 off just 33 balls to drive RCB towards a crucial win. Playing their last league match of the season, Bengaluru defeated Luckow by six-wickets at the Ekana Cricket Stadium.
Jitesh Sharma drew attentifeaon to himself on Tuesday, not just for his explosive knock, but also for his post-win celebration gesture.
After completing a 228 run chase with eight balls to spare, Jitesh tossed his helmet in the air as a celebration act. This brought back memories of Avesh Khan’s gesture of throwing the helmet on the ground last season. But this time around, Avesh was on the receiving end.
In 2024, Avesh flung his helmet on the ground after LSG’s dramatic win over RCB. Jitesh imitated the gesture, but with controlled emotions as he stopped before doing anything that could draw a disciplined action.
However, RCB’s social media page on X, took the opportunity to take a dig at Avesh. They posted a picture of Jitesh’s ‘helmet’ celebration and captioned – “Didn’t throw the helmet. We respect it”
Asked to bat first, LSG put up a score of 227 for RCB to chase. Lucknow skipper Rishabh Pant smashed a stunning 118 off 61 deliveries, helping LSG post a big target.
In reply, Virat Kohli (54) and Phil Salt (30) gave RCB a good start. Jitesh Sharma (85*) and Mayank Agarwal (41*) continued the momentum and drove Bengaluru to complete their highest run chase in the tournament history.
RCB will face Punjab Kings in Qualifier 1 on Thursday, while Gujarat Titans will play against Mumbai Indians in the Eliminator on Monday.
