Former Test captain Rohit Sharma persuaded the BCCI and head coach Gautam Gambhir to reinstate T Dilip. Reportedly, Rohit personally requested to bring back Dilip as India’s fielding coach.
The Board of Control for Cricket in India has reportedly taken a U-turn and re-appointed T Dilip. The fielding coach was reinstated weeks after he was relieved from his duties. Dilip is now set to travel to England with the test squad for the five-match test series starting June 20.
Dilip initially joined the Indian team in 2021 when Rahul Dravid became head coach. The BCCI released him from his post alongside batting coach Abhishek Nayar. However, as per the Indian Express, he was reapproached by the board and was offered a one-year extension.
According to a report by Cricbuzz, the board alone did not take this decision. Rohit Sharma played a part in convincing both the board and head coach Gautam Gambhir to bring Dilip back. Rohit personally convinced Gambhir to continue with Dilip. As a result, Ryan ten Doeschate, who was supposed to replace Dilip, will now continue as an assistant coach.
T Dilip’s return will support Team India during its transition as it begins a new chapter under captain Shubman Gill. The upcoming England series is India’s first Test series since Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli’s retirement.
Since joining the team in 2021, Dilip has played an important part in making India one of the best fielding sides in international cricket. He brought a new system to reward top fielding efforts. He previously worked at the National Cricket Academy in Bengaluru.
Dilip will travel to England with head coach Gautam Gambhir. The batting coach Sitanshu Kotak, bowling coach Morne Morkel, and assistant coach Ryan ten Doeschate will assist the India A team on their England tour.
