Ntuli and Mondol Involved in On-Field Altercation During Emerging Test

South Africa’s Tshepo Ntuli and Bangladesh’s Ripon Mondol engaged in a heated exchange on Wednesday. The incident took place during a four-day match between the Bangladesh Emerging team and the South Africa Emerging team.

The Heated Clash Between Ripon and Ntuli

The incident occurred after Ripon hit a straight six off a delivery from Ntuli. As he walked back to his partner, Mehidy Hasan, on the non-striker’s end, Ripon exchanged some glances with Ntuli, who then charged towards him.

The two players first pushed each other before Ntuli pulled Ripon’s helmet. The on-field umpire Kamruzzaman tried to intervene, but Ntuli pulled the helmet again. The umpire eventually managed to separate them. The other South African players did not stop Ntuli. The fight drew reactions from the commentators.

“This is extreme, this is unacceptable. Normally, we see verbal altercations in a cricket field, but we don’t often see a scuffle. Ntuli struck Ripon’s helmet at one point,” Nabil Kaiser, one of the on-air commentators, said.

Three balls after the helmet incident, Ntuli threw the ball at Ripon after the batter defended it back to the bowler. Ripon managed to dodge the throw just in time.

How will the Officials Reply?

The match officials are yet to take action. The protocol requires the on-field umpires to submit an official report before any punishment can be announced.

It has been learnt that the match referee will submit reports of the heated incident to both teams’ boards. The BCB and CSA are expected to take action against the behaviour of their players.

Things were already tense between the two teams due to incidents that happened during the one-day leg of the tour in Rajshahi. Andiel Saimelane and Jishan Alam were both suspended after incidents in the second one-day match. Both missed the third game of the series.

The current four-day match is the final game of the tour. The South Africa Emerging team lost the one-day series, while the first four-day match ended in a draw.
