Sunrisers Hyderabad opener Abhishek Sharma was involved in a heated confrontation with Lucknow Super Giants bowler Digvesh Rathi. Rathi gave him a send-off in his trademark style which seemed to irritate Abhishek.

Tensions ran high during the critical match between Sunrisers Hyderabad and Lucknow Super Giants on Monday. Abhishek Sharma and Digvesh Rathi were involved in an intense argument after the LSG spinner dismissed the former.

Rathi’s Signature Send-Off Causes Tensions

Abhishek Sharma slammed 59 runs off just 20 deliveries. Rathi then claimed his wicket and celebrated with his signature notebook gesture. Chasing 206, SRH scored 98 in the first seven overs with Abhishek and Ishan Kishan looking set. The left-hander attempted to clear the off-side boundary but mistimed his shot, resulting in a catch by Shardul Thakur at sweeper cover.

Rathi was thrilled after breaking the 82 run partnership and gave Abhishek a wave as he walked back to the pavilion. He then followed it up with his celebratory gesture. Vexed by this, Abhishek turned back and walked towards Rathi, leading to a heated face-off between the two. The on-field umpire interfered to calm the situation.

The umpire had a long discussion with Rathi before the next batter arrived on the crease. At the end of the match, the two were seen shaking hands and explaining their reactions to each other.

“I spoke to him at the end of the match. It’s all well now,” Abhishek said after the match.

Notably, Digvesh Rathi was previously charged for a similar celebratory gesture Priyansh Arya during their clash against PBKS this season.

SRH vs LSG

Earlier in the match, Aiden Markram and Mitchell Marsh hit quick fifties in a strong opening stand. LSG put 205 on the scoreboard, helped by Nicholas Pooran’s fast 45 from 26 balls.

For LSG this was a must-win situation to keep their playoff hopes alive. With only 10 points from 11 games, their chances were hanging by a thread.
