Mumbai Indians have made key additions to their squad ahead of a crucial phase in IPL 2025. The playoffs are just around the corner. The five-time champions have brought in three international player. Sri Lankan white-ball captain Charith Asalanka, and English stars Jonny Bairstow and Richard Gleeson—as replacements.

These players will replace Will Jacks, Ryan Rickelton, and Corbin Bosch, who are set to leave the tournament due to national duties. Jacks has been called up for England’s white-ball commitments, while South African duo Rickelton and Bosch will join their national team for the World Test Championship final.

Strong Replacements for Departing Overseas Players

The departure of Rickelton will be felt the most. The South African wicketkeeper-batter has been a key contributor in his debut IPL season, scoring 362 runs in 12 games at a strike rate of 153. His aggressive starts gave MI momentum in several games. However, Jonny Bairstow is expected to step into this role. Bairstow brings experience, power-hitting, and can also keep wickets, making him an ideal replacement.

Charith Asalanka’s addition gives Mumbai a left-handed option in the top order. He has been a consistent performer for Sri Lanka in white-ball cricket and can handle pressure situations. Richard Gleeson, known for his pace and bounce, adds depth to the pace attack. He will join forces with the likes of Jasprit Bumrah and possibly Reece Topley, who is yet to feature this season.

Tilak Varma could also benefit from these changes. With Jacks leaving, Tilak might be promoted to the number three position, a role he is familiar with from his T20I outings for India.

Playoff Race Heats Up for Mumbai Indians

Mumbai Indians are currently in a tight battle with Delhi Capitals for the final playoff spot. A win against DC at the Wankhede Stadium on Wednesday could seal their place in the top four. Their final league game is against Punjab Kings in Jaipur.

The management’s swift action in signing quality replacements highlights their intent to go deep into the tournament. As the playoff race intensifies, these new additions could play a vital role in MI’s campaign. The team now looks more balanced and better prepared to handle the challenges ahead.
