Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) have qualified for the IPL 2025 playoffs. With two league matches left, they are aiming for a top-two finish. However, one big concern remains — the fitness of star pacer Josh Hazlewood.
Hazlewood left the RCB camp on May 9 due to a shoulder injury. He returned to Australia for rehabilitation. Since then, there have been mixed reports about his return. Some reports suggested he might come back for the playoffs. Others said he might miss the rest of the tournament.
Cricket Australia released a statement saying players can choose not to return to the IPL if they wish. Jake Fraser-McGurk of Delhi Capitals chose not to return, and DC replaced him with Mustafizur Rahman.
In a fresh update, Hazlewood was seen bowling in the nets in Brisbane. The Australian team has started their preparations for the World Test Championship final against South Africa. While it’s unclear if Hazlewood was bowling at full pace, he looked close to match fitness.
This has given RCB fans fresh hope. His return could be crucial for their playoff campaign. The IPL 2025 playoff venues are yet to be announced.
Hazlewood has played a key role in RCB’s success this season. He has taken 18 wickets in 10 matches. He is third on the Purple Cap list. His economy rate is 8.44, and his average is 17.27.
One of his best performances came against Rajasthan Royals. He bowled the 19th over, gave away just one run, and took two wickets. That effort helped RCB break their home ground curse.
RCB will now face Sunrisers Hyderabad and Lucknow Super Giants in their last two league games. Wins in both could seal a top-two finish. If Hazlewood returns, it will boost their chances of winning their first IPL title.
Australia, meanwhile, will play the WTC final at Lord’s from June 11. Hazlewood’s form and fitness will be important for both RCB and the national team.
