Cricket enthusiasts worldwide who were eagerly anticipating the 2023 edition of the Road Safety World Series have been met with disappointment as the tournament, slated to promote road safety and prevent accidents, has been postponed indefinitely. The event was scheduled to kick off on September 23 and exclusively hosted at the picturesque Uptonsteel County Ground, the home of Leicestershire County Cricket Club.
The decision to postpone this cricketing extravaganza was announced through an official media release by Leicestershire County Cricket Club. The statement cited unforeseen logistical issues as the primary reason behind the postponement. However, the organisers remain committed to the cause and are actively working to reschedule the tournament for the following year, in 2024.
“The much-anticipated Road Safety World Series (RSWS) UK, originally scheduled at Uptonsteel County Ground, Leicester, from September 23rd to October 1st, 2023, has regrettably been postponed indefinitely,”read the statement.
“The organisers are actively working on rescheduling the tournament for the following year. Further updates regarding the Road Safety World Series UK 2024 will be communicated in due course.”, it further stated.
The Road Safety World Series holds a special place as it brings together cricketing legends from various nations, all unified by their commitment to supporting the vital cause of road safety. The 2023 edition, now postponed, would have featured cricketing powerhouses like India, England, Pakistan, Australia, and Sri Lanka. Pakistan, in particular, was poised to make its debut in this prestigious event.
Beyond being a cricket tournament, the Road Safety World Series serves as a powerful vehicle to create awareness and inspire action for safer roads. It leverages cricket’s passion and appeal to convey a vital message about responsible road behaviour. The event reminds individuals of the pivotal role they can play in preventing accidents and emphasises the significance of road safety.
As fans await the rescheduled dates for the Road Safety World Series in 2024, the tournament’s mission to save lives through the promotion of road safety remains undeterred.
