Virat Kohli has ended his Test career. The decision was quiet. There was no big event. No farewell match. But he did share it with someone special before going public — Ravi Shastri.

Shastri was the head coach of Team India for many years. Kohli and Shastri worked closely. They trusted each other. As per a Cricbuzz report, Kohli spoke to Shastri before making his final decision.

“It is understood that Kohli spoke to Ravi Shastri, his friend, philosopher, guide and mentor, before taking the call,” the report said.

Meetings With BCCI Officials Did Not Happen

Kohli was also supposed to talk to BCCI officials. He was expected to meet Jay Shah and Rajeev Shukla. But the meeting didn’t happen.

The reason? Military tension between India and Pakistan. A terror attack in Kashmir had killed 26 tourists. India launched Operation Sindoor on May 7. The army targeted terror camps across the border.

Because of this, Kohli could not meet the board.

“There was to be a meeting… but that may not have taken place because of the recent border tensions,” stated the Cricbuzz report.

Talks With Selectors Did Take Place

Kohli did speak to Ajit Agarkar. He is the chief selector. They had two phone calls. They also exchanged a few messages.

The report said that Kohli had been thinking about retiring for a long time. His dip in form, new family travel policies, and selectors wanting young players influenced him.

Shastri’s Words For Kohli

After the retirement news came out, Shastri posted an emotional message.

“Can’t believe you are done,” Shastri wrote.
“You are a modern-day GIANT and were a fantastic ambassador for Test match cricket. Thank you for the lasting memories. Go well, champ.”

Many fans felt that Kohli deserved a better farewell. He had been a strong supporter of Test cricket. He played with heart and fire.

“It’s something I will cherish for life,” added Shastri.

Kohli ended his Test career 752 runs short of 10,000. He remains one of India’s greatest red-ball players.

His exit may have been quiet. But his legacy is loud.
