Injury Blow: Ashton Agar Ruled Out of Northants Blast

Australian spinner Ashton Agar was ruled out of the Northants Blast due to a calf injury. He was due to play the full group stage before his injury. This comes as a big blow to the Northants Steelbacks.

Northamptonshire will play without Ashton Agar for the Vitality Blast after the bowler was ruled out with a calf strain. Last year, he helped Northants reach the quarter-finals. He had been contracted to play the entire group stage of the competition, but he has been ruled out after suffering a calf strain while training with his state side, Western Australia. He will not return, while Northants look for an overseas replacement.

A club statement added that ‘an overseas replacement for the 2025 Vitality Blast will be announced shortly’.

Agar is Disappointed

The Australian bowler expressed his feelings after being ruled out. He said he was disappointed by how things turned out.

“I’m extremely disappointed to be missing this year’s Vitality Blast with Northamptonshire,” Agar said. “I loved my time there last season, it’s a fantastic club with great people, and I’ll be watching and supporting the boys from Perth.” He added.

Northants head coach, Darren Lehmann, said: “We’re all very disappointed for Ashton, but we wish him well in his recovery.”

Player Availability Issues

Agar was the club’s second overseas signing for the Blast, with the other being Matthew Breetzke, who is currently part of the Lucknow Super Giants squad competing in the Indian Premier League.

There is also uncertainty over the availability of South African batter Matthew Breetzke for the start of the Blast, following the suspension of the IPL. Breetzke is contracted to Lucknow Super Giants, although he has not played a game this season, and is understood to be returning to India for the revised schedule of the competition.
