Former Indian cricket captain Sunil Gavaskar has asked the BCCI to remove loud music, DJs, and cheerleaders from the remaining IPL 2025 matches. He said this would show respect to the families who lost their loved ones in the recent terror attack in Kashmir.

The IPL 2025 stopped last week after a deadly attack in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir, killed 26 people. After this, the Indian Army launched Operation Sindoor and destroyed terror camps in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK). As tensions rose between India and Pakistan, the BCCI suspended the tournament.

Now, with a ceasefire in place, the BCCI will restart the IPL on May 17 with the match between Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) and Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium.

Gavaskar’s Request to BCCI

Before the tournament resumes, Gavaskar made a special request to the BCCI. He told Sports Today, “Let’s not have DJs shouting in the middle of the match. No loud music, no dancing girls. These last few games should only be about cricket. That will show respect to the families who are in pain.”

He also said that the league should not feel like a celebration right now. “Let the fans come and enjoy cricket. But let’s keep the noise and fun parts away. Just cricket, that’s enough,” he added.

Gavaskar Supports the Suspension

Gavaskar also supported the BCCI’s decision to stop the league last week. He said, “It was the right move. When there is war or tension at the border, sport cannot go on. But now that there is peace again, the matches can start.”

New IPL 2025 Schedule

The BCCI announced the new schedule on Monday. A total of 17 matches will take place from May 17 to June 3. There will be two double-headers on Sundays. Qualifier 1 will be on May 29, the Eliminator on May 30, and Qualifier 2 on June 1. The final will be held on June 3. The board will share the venues for the playoffs soon.
