It is noteworthy that Kohli had to wait over three years to record his 71st century in a match. In the 2022 Asia Cup match against Afghanistan, he smashed a brilliant century to finally hit the elusive three-figure mark. Since then, the Delhi batsman has added five more century to his total, the most recent of which came against the West Indies in Trinidad’s second Test.

In India’s crushing victory over West Indies in the first ODI, the right-hander was not given the opportunity to bat. He nevertheless had an effect by dismissing Romario Shepherd with an amazing one-handed catch off Ravindra Jadeja at second slip.

During a discussion on the Khul Ke Official YouTube channel, Ambrose commented on Kohli’s technique.

Curtley Ambrose said

“Very pleasant to watch, easy on the eyes, can score quickly, without getting aggressive. He is not like a six-hitter per se. Not that he can’t do it, he can score as quickly as guys you call six-hitters. But wonderful player as well. He is great to watch.”

A new achievement is always in store for Kohli, who has played international cricket for 15 years. In ODI cricket, he is just 102 runs away from joining the exclusive 13,000 club. He will follow in the footsteps of Sanath Jayasuriya, Ricky Ponting, Kumar Sangakkara, and Sachin Tendulkar. In 321 innings, Tendulkar surpassed the 13,000-run mark more quickly than anyone else. It’s interesting to note that Kohli has only taken part in 265 ODI innings so far.

On Saturday, July 29, at Bridgetown, Barbados, the second ODI between India and the West Indies will take place. To keep the series alive, Shai Hope’s team must win the game. India on the other hand will look to seal the series. They might try a few combinations before the Cup later this year.
