Mumbai Indians batter Suryakumar Yadav surpassed the legendary Sachin Tendulkar’s record of having the most runs for MI in an IPL season. He achieved this feat on Monday in their clash against the Punjab Kings.
The T20 captain began the 2025 IPL season with doubts about his form. But he has silenced those doubts with his consistent batting. He has put up strong scores, including several unbeaten knocks and fast fifties.
On Monday, Suryakumar Yadav rewrote history, breaking a 15-year-old record held by Sachin Tendulkar. He has become the highest run-getter for the Mumbai Indians in a single IPL season. Surya has gone past Sachin’s total of 618 runs from the 2010 season.
Surya has emerged as the most consistent batter for MI this season with back-to-back 25+ runs knocks. This is his second time crossing the 600 mark in the league. In 2023, he amassed 605 runs in 16 innings with an average of 43.21 and a strike rate of 181.1.
Surya has shattered another world record in T20 cricket, along with most runs for MI in an IPL season. He has now hit the 14th consecutive score of over 25 in T20 cricket.
The 34-year-old broke the world record for most consecutive scores of over 25 in the format. He went over the previous record of Temba Bavuma, who had 13 such consecutive scores.
Along with this milestone, Surya has also surpassed an all-time IPL record. His 14th 25+ score is the most number of 25+ scores in an IPL season ever. He went past the joint record held by Kane Williamson and Shubman Gill of 13 such scores each in a season.
