Punjab Kings (PBKS) confirmed their place in the top two of the IPL 2025 points table after a clinical seven-wicket win over Mumbai Indians (MI). The win not only sealed their spot in Qualifier 1 but also brought back a podcast clip of Shashank Singh, which has now gone viral for all the right reasons.

PBKS Dominate MI to Finish Second

Playing at the Sawai Mansingh Stadium in Jaipur, PBKS chased down 185 with confidence. Their bowlers kept things tight in the first half, restricting MI to a competitive but manageable total. The batters then took charge, with steady partnerships and aggressive strokeplay sealing the deal.

With this victory, PBKS ended the league stage with 19 points from 14 matches—their best finish since IPL 2014.

This top-two finish gives them a huge advantage: a spot in Qualifier 1, where a win takes them to the final, and a loss gives them another shot in Qualifier 2.

“We Believed in Ourselves”: Shashank Reflects on Viral Clip

After PBKS’ win, an old podcast clip featuring Shashank Singh resurfaced on social media. In it, he confidently predicted that PBKS would finish in the top two. At the time, it felt like an ambitious claim. Now, it’s reality.

Reacting to the clip, Shashank said,

“It feels surreal. Finishing in the top two is not easy in a league like the IPL. To be very honest, it’s very satisfying.”

He revealed that the team had set this goal before the season even began.

“Right after the auction, we created a WhatsApp group. We talked about winning the title. Our first aim was to finish top two. That’s done. Now we go all out for the trophy.”

Shashank credited the entire setup: the management, support staff, and players.

“We manifested this as a unit. We believed, we worked hard, and every single person contributed.”

Team Effort Fuels PBKS’ Rise

PBKS’ success this season has been built on collective effort and culture. Head coach Ricky Ponting and captain Shreyas Iyer have backed every player and promoted a healthy environment.

While established names like Arshdeep Singh, Marcus Stoinis, Yuzvendra Chahal, and Shreyas Iyer performed consistently, PBKS also unearthed key performances from uncapped Indian talents.

The depth and balance of the squad have stood out. The team adapted well to different situations and showed great temperament under pressure.

This is only the second time in franchise history that PBKS have made it to the top two, the previous being in IPL 2014, when they reached the final.

What Lies Ahead

With momentum and belief on their side, PBKS will now face either the first or third-placed team in Qualifier 1. A win there will take them straight to the final. Even a loss will give them another shot in Qualifier 2.

For now, the fans are celebrating a long-awaited turnaround. PBKS are not just in the playoffs — they are leading from the front, with confidence, unity, and ambition.

And it all started with belief — something Shashank Singh and the team never lacked.
