Mumbai batter Siddhesh Lad will lead the Mumbai South Central Maratha Royals in the third season of the T20 Mumbai League. The announcement came on Monday, just days before the tournament begins.
Lad is one of the most consistent performers in Mumbai cricket. He made a strong return to the Mumbai Ranji team last season after playing for Goa in 2022–23. Known for his calm mindset and smart decision-making, he now takes on the captain’s role for the Royals.
The T20 Mumbai League will take place from June 4 to June 12. Matches will be held at Wankhede Stadium and DY Patil Stadium. The league will feature eight franchises, just like the previous seasons.
The Royals had to make some changes to their squad. Tushar Deshpande and Armaan Jaffer will not take part in the tournament. Deshpande has been picked for the India A squad that will tour England. Jaffer, 26, got permission from the Mumbai Cricket Association to play for Pondicherry.
In their place, the Royals brought in Rohan Raje and Saksham Parashar. Raje brings experience with the ball, while Parashar is seen as a young talent to watch.
Team mentor Abhishek Nayar praised Lad’s leadership qualities. “He reads the game well. He absorbs pressure. He leads by example. He has played in every format and delivered in all roles,” Nayar said in a statement.
With Lad in charge, the Royals will aim for a strong showing this season. His ability to guide young players and handle pressure situations could prove vital. The team will now focus on preparation, strategy, and combinations for the week-long competition.
All eyes will be on Lad as he begins a new chapter in his T20 journey, this time as captain.
