The Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 is set to resume on May 17 after a week-long suspension. The break happened because of rising tensions between India and Pakistan following the Pahalgam terror attack. Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) Director of Cricket, Mo Bobat, shared how the franchise reacted during the uncertainty.

RCB Wanted to Send Players Home

Mo Bobat said that RCB was ready to send all players home when the tournament was suspended. He believed the IPL might not restart soon due to the situation at the border. The team had prepared for the worst.

“Our first thought was that the tournament might be cancelled for a longer time,” Bobat said. “We thought it would be good to let players go home and take a break.”

Indian players could travel home easily. For overseas players, Bobat and head coach Andy Flower held a meeting. Many foreign players preferred to return home but promised to come back if the IPL resumed.

Sudden Suspension Caused Confusion

Bobat described the day before the suspension as chaotic. The RCB team had just finished their practice before a scheduled match against Lucknow Super Giants. On the bus ride back, players noticed that the Punjab Kings vs Delhi Capitals game had stopped midway. The lights went out, and players walked off the field.

“When we reached the hotel, we understood the full picture,” Bobat said. “We stayed calm and tried to get updates from the BCCI.”

IPL Resumes, RCB Eyes Playoff Spot

A ceasefire helped the BCCI decide to continue the tournament. RCB will face Kolkata Knight Riders at the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru on Saturday. The team currently holds second place on the points table with 16 points and is in a strong position to reach the playoffs.

Most of RCB’s overseas stars, including Phil Salt, Tim David, Romario Shepherd, Jacob Bethell, and Liam Livingstone, have returned to India. Josh Hazlewood is expected to join the team soon.

The IPL 2025 season moves forward, but the brief suspension served as a reminder of how quickly off-field events can impact the world of sports.
