Former India A and Gujarat captain Priyank Panchal has announced his retirement from all forms of cricket. This was confirmed by the Gujarat Cricket Association (GCA) on Monday, May 26.
Panchal, who was part of Gujarat’s Ranji Trophy-winning team, called off his cricket career after 17 long years. The 35-year-old ends his career as Gujarat’s second-highest run-scorer in first-class cricket, just 19 runs behind Parthiv Patel.
“End of an Era! Gujarat Cricket Association congratulates Priyank Panchal on a stellar cricketing journey as he announces retirement from all formats on May 26, 2025,” GCA wrote in a post on X.
Meanwhile, Panchal also posted a social media post on X about his retirement. “Growing up, everyone looked up to their father. idolises them, gets inspired, and tries to impress them. I was no different. My dad was a long-lasting source of strength for me. I was moved by the energy that he gave me, the way he encouraged me to pursue my dreams, to rise from a relatively small city and dare to aspire to wear the India cap one day. he left us long ago, and it was a dream I carried with me for nearly two decades, season after season, until today. I, Priyank Panchal, announce my retirement from first-class cricket with immediate effect. It’s an emotional moment. It’s an enriching moment. and it’s a moment which fills me with a lot of gratitude,” Panchal wrote in a social media post.
Panchal began his career in the 2007-08 season. Along with Parthiv Patel, he helped Gujarat transform into champions in all formats. He was part of the winning teams in all major domestic tournaments. These include – the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy (2014-15), Vijay Hazare Trophy (2015-16), and Ranji Trophy (2016-17).
In the 2024-25 Ranji Trophy, he scored two centuries, including the 148 against Kerala, which turned out to be his final innings. He holds the record for the most centuries by a Gujarat player in first-class cricket with 23 centuries.
In First-Class cricket, he scored a total of 8,856 runs, which includes 29 centuries and 34 half-centuries. He also played 97 List A games and 59 T20 matches.
