Royal Challengers Bengaluru’s captain Rajat Patidar has dismissed any injury concerns ahead of IPL resumption. He sustained an injury to his finger during a match against CSK in May, fortunately, he has recovered and is set to return.
RCB has received a major boost with their skipper returning after nursing an injury. The suspension of IPL resulted in favour of Rajat Patidar, as he received more time to get better.
The skipper returned to bat in the nets after successfully recovering from his right ring finger injury. It took him 10 days to fully recover.
The RCB skipper was seen batting in the nets during the practice session on Thursday. First, Patidar focused on basic fitness routines and then tested his finger with some low throwdowns. Once he felt comfortable, he went to the nets for batting practice.
Patidar was being observed by his batting coach and mentor Dinesh Karthik. At first, he lacked power in his shots and pushed a few balls on either side of the wicket. Then he unleashed his big hits and grew confident with every shot, bringing out his trademark aerial cover drives.
The practice session was held two days ahead of their match against Kolkata Knight Riders at M. Chinnaswamy Stadium on May 17. According to ESPNCricinfo, Patidar batted for over 30 minutes, but didn’t do any fielding practice.
Patidar scored 239 runs in 11 matches, maintaining a strike rate of 140.58. He slammed 2 half-centuries this season, with his highest individual score being 64. Though the start of the season was action-packed, his form declined in the past few matches.
After their match on May 17 against KKR, RCB will face Sunrisers Hyderabad on May 23. Their last league match will be on May 27 against Lucknow Super Giants.
