After the MI vs DC fixture, players were on their way to do the customary handshakes. Mumbai Indians owner Nita Ambani stepped in, stopping Jasprit Bumrah to pour sanitizer into the star pacer’s palm.
Bumrah smiled and went forward with her request. The thoughtful gesture instantly caught everyone’s eye. She also sanitized leg-spinner Karn Sharma’s hands, making sure no one skipped the protocol.
With states like Kerala, Maharashtra, and Uttar Pradesh seeing a rise in COVID-19 cases, Nita Ambani stepped in to ensure the safety of her players. Now, clips and pictures of her adhering to the safety protocols are going viral on social media.
Mumbai Indians skipper Hardik Pandya also showed his support for the safety measures. He chose to fist bump the ground staff instead of the customary handshakes. Deepak Chahar, on the other hand, offered sanitizer to both MI and DC players.
With the COVID-19 cases on the rise, it found its way into the league. Sunrisers Hyderabad’s Travis Head missed one match after testing positive for Covid-19.
Mumbai Indians have joined Gujarat Titans, Royal Challengers Bengaluru, and Punjab Kings in the playoffs. MI started with four losses but turned their fortunes around and won seven out of their last eight matches.
The final few games in the group phase will decide the play-off standings as the top two teams will have the advantage of having two shots at reaching the final on June 3.
