Nepal pulled off their highest-ever ODI run chase by defeating Scotland in a last-ball thriller. The match took place in Dundee as part of the ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup League 2. Nepal chased down 297 with just one wicket in hand. After the win, excited Nepal fans stormed the field in celebration.
Nepal won the toss and chose to field first. Scotland scored 296/7 in their 50 overs. Charlie Tear led the way with 80 runs. Finlay McCreath added 55. Captain Richie Berrington scored 40, and Matthew Cross chipped in with 39.
For Nepal, Karan KC bowled well. He took 2 wickets for 43 runs. Sompal Kami and Rijan Dhakal also took two wickets each. Sandeep Lamichhane got one wicket.
Nepal started well with opener Kushal Bhurtel hitting 53 off 44 balls. Bhim Sharki added 40 and captain Rohit Paudel scored 37. But the middle order collapsed. Brandon McMullen took three wickets for Scotland and turned the tide.
Karan KC walked in at number seven. He held the innings together. He added 60 runs with Gulsan Jha, who smashed a quick 42 off 30 balls. After Jha got out in the 46th over, Karan took charge.
The game came down to the final over. Nepal needed 5 runs off 3 balls. Karan ran two doubles. With 1 run needed off the last ball, Mark Watt bowled around the wicket. He aimed at Karan’s pads. Karan missed the flick. Wicketkeeper Cross fumbled but broke the stumps.
Scotland celebrated, thinking they had bowled Nepal out and forced a Super Over. But the umpire raised his arms. It was a wide.
Karan, already raising his bat, celebrated as fans jumped over fences and ran onto the field. They waved flags, hugged players, and lifted Karan on their shoulders.
Karan KC’s all-round performance earned him the Player of the Match award. He guided Nepal to their biggest chase in ODI history. The win lifted Nepal’s hopes in the League 2 standings.
