Star cricketer MS Dhoni is most likely to return for the Indian Premier League next year. He has exhibited no indication of exiting the league this season, despite speculation about his retirement.
Chennai Super Kings keeper-batter MS Dhoni will, in all likelihood, return next year for the IPL. Even with Chennai’s struggles this season, he has reportedly decided to continue playing. As per a TOI report, IPL 2025 will not be the end of Dhoni’s extraordinary career in the tournament.
Dhoni is yet to comment on his future in cricket. Before the 2025 mega auction, CSK retained him as an uncapped player. He had to captain CSK once again when Ruturaj Gaikwad suffered an injury in the middle of the season.
The five-time winner believes that Dhoni will continue to play after the 2025 season. The former skipper highlighted earlier that he will decide his future in the IPL in the coming months. However, many in the team feel that he has some loose ends to take care of.
The report further added that Dhoni wants to help the team resolve gaps in the squad. His presence is considered crucial for the team to return to its former glory. However, he will probably not resume leadership duties. Gaikwad is expected to take over after recovering from his elbow injury.
MS Dhoni had a tough time leading CSK this year. After Dhoni returned to captaincy, Chennai only managed two wins in seven matches. They still have 2 matches left – the first with Rajasthan Royals on May 20. The last match is with Gujarat Titans on May 25.
CSK is currently at the bottom of the IPL 2025 points table. After playing 12 matches, they have managed to win just three while losing nine and have six points.
