Virat Kohli’s fans are set to pay him a tribute for his recent retirement from test cricket. As he retired without a farewell match, fans have planned to honour him by wearing test whites on May 17.
Virat Kohli announced his retirement from Test cricket on May 12 and shocked the entire cricket scene. His fans were disappointed that he did not receive a proper goodbye from the format he cherished most.
Following Virat’s retirement, his fans wanted to show their admiration for the former skipper. Started with a social media campaign, the fans have decided to wear white for RCB’s next home game.
RCB is set to face KKR on May 17 as the Indian Premier League resumes after a week’s suspension. This movement quickly went viral, with people commenting and urging fans to wear white at M. Chinnaswamy. This is their way of giving him a proper farewell, as he did not receive one.
Social media was flooded with photos from outside the stadium in Bengaluru. Street Vendors have stocked up on white jerseys instead of RCB red ones.
News of this fan-dedicated movement also reached the RCB camp. However, director of cricket Mo Bobat said, “It’s not something we’ve thought about or talked about too much. I’ve certainly noticed that the fans have been talking about that a little bit, but I don’t think it’ll have much of an impact on our play,” explained Bobat to ESPNcricinfo.
Bobat also praised Kohli’s ability to absorb the emotions of the last few days while still keeping his focus on the task at hand. “The first thing to say is Virat’s just business as usual, as he always is,” Bobat said. “There’s enough of the public and the nation’s attention on him, he doesn’t want any more of that.
