Jasprit Bumrah's Ankle Scare in Asia Cup 2023 Raises Eyebrows

Jasprit Bumrah, India’s premier fast bowler, sent ripples of concern through the cricketing world during the Asia Cup 2023 Super 4 clash against Sri Lanka. The 27-year-old, who had recently returned to competitive cricket after a back injury, encountered a significant injury scare when he appeared to twist his ankle while delivering a ball against Sri Lanka.

Bumrah’s Injury Plagued Past

Bumrah’s journey back to the cricket field has been marred by injuries. In September 2022, he suffered a back injury that led to his absence from both the T20 World Cup and the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2023 as he underwent an extensive rehabilitation process. His return to action came during the T20I series against Ireland, marking his resurgence as a crucial asset for India ahead of the ODI World Cup 2023.

During the Super 4 clash against Sri Lanka, Bumrah’s landing after delivering a ball appeared awkward, causing his ankle to twist during the follow-through. This incident understandably raised apprehension among Indian cricket team supporters, who feared a recurrence of his injury woes.

A Swift Comeback

Thankfully, there was some relief as Bumrah showed resilience by promptly returning to complete his spell. Despite the discomfort, he managed to dismiss Pathun Nissanka and Kusal Mendis. However, as a precautionary measure, he was swiftly taken back into the dugout for scans and further assessment.

In the Asia Cup 2023 Super 4 clash against Sri Lanka, India faced a challenging outing with the bat. After Rohit Sharma won the toss and elected to bat first at R Premadasa Stadium, Colombo, the Indian team was bundled out for just 213. This disappointing batting performance added to the pressure on the Indian bowlers, making Bumrah’s injury scare even more concerning for the team and its supporters.
