Indian cricket star Rohit Sharma received a huge honour at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai. A stand has been named after him. It is now called the “Rohit Sharma Stand.” The Mumbai Cricket Association (MCA) organised a grand ceremony for the event.

A Special Day With Family

Rohit was joined by his wife Ritika, parents, and brother. Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis also attended. Together, they pressed a button to unveil the stand. Fireworks and confetti lit up the stadium.

Rohit was full of emotion. He said, “I never dreamed of something like this. I always just wanted to play for Mumbai and India. This is very special.”

He also said, “To have my family here makes it even more special. I thank them for all their sacrifices.” Rohit has retired from Tests and T20Is, but still plays ODIs and for Mumbai Indians in the IPL.

First Ticket and Match Day

The first ticket to the new stand was given to Rohit. It is for the IPL match between Mumbai Indians and Delhi Capitals on May 21.

Rohit said, “It will be surreal to play in front of a stand named after me.” He also shared his dream of playing an ODI for India at Wankhede again.

Teammates Share Their Love

Rohit’s teammates posted heartfelt messages:

Shreyas Iyer said:

“You have been an inspiration to all of us – I can proudly say that I have been lucky enough to be part of your era.”

Yashasvi Jaiswal said:

“I am really excited to hit plenty of sixes in the stand named after you.”

Suryakumar Yadav also shared a tribute on Instagram, praising Rohit’s leadership and impact on the team.

Support From CM Fadnavis

Chief Minister Fadnavis praised Rohit and announced support for cricket infrastructure. He said the government will provide land if MCA proposes a new stadium.

The event also honoured Ajit Wadekar and Sharad Pawar with stands in their names. It was truly a proud and emotional day for Rohit and Indian cricket fans.
