Royal Challengers Bengaluru’s senior batter Virat Kohli has banned AB de Villiers from saying a famous Kannada phrase. He cannot use the phrase “Ee Sala Cup Namde,” which translates to “This year the cup is ours.”
RCB’s former star AB de Villiers has said that the franchise will go all the way this time. He believes that Bengaluru will end their 18 year long wait and win the title this year. De Villiers’ comments came after RCB crumbled PBKS’s batting lineup in Qualifier 1 to get direct entry into the final.
De Villiers revealed that Virat has prohibited him from using a phrase about the championship trophy. The phrase is “Ee Sala Cup Namde,” which translates to “This year the cup is ours.”
ESPNCricinfo asked de Villiers to deliver a message to the fans after RCB’s dominant win against PBKS. He said, “The time has come. RCB is going all the way. I’m not allowed to say the Bengaluru terms because Virat told me I’m not allowed to say that anymore. But I truly believe we are going all the way this season. So stay tuned, buckle up and enjoy the ride.”
The South African legend earlier explained the reason behind Bengaluru’ success this year. He said that the entire squad stepping up is the reason RCB has done well this season.
“What excites me most this season is that multiple players are stepping up, not just one or two. It’s not just the usual Virat Kohli or, back in the day, a Chris Gayle. Now, we see the whole squad responding under pressure,” said de Villiers.
Punjab Kings could only manage to put up 101 on the scoreboard in their home game. Their batting order collapsed and the team was bowled out in just 14.1 overs.
Fast bowlers Yash Dayal (2/26), Bhuvneshwar Kumar (1/17), and Josh Hazlewood (3/21) silenced Punjab’s top order. Then spinner Suyash Sharma picked 3 wickets to run through the middle order.
